Competition rules and guidelines

Everything you need to know about game formats, team requirements, and court conduct for the 2026 summer social competition.

What is the team composition and player minimum?

  • All divisions are mixed-gender competitions.
  • A maximum of six players may be on court at one time.
  • A team must have at least two female players on court at all times and may have a maximum of four male players on court.
  • Teams may field more than two female players. There is no minimum number of male players.
  • If only one female player is available, the team may play with a maximum of five players and may not replace the missing second female player with an additional male player.
  • A team unable to field any female players will forfeit the match.

Registration & Player Eligibility

  • Registration fee is $100 per player for the full competition.
  • Each team must register a minimum of six players. Teams are strongly encouraged to register additional players to cover absences.
  • All players must hold a current Volleyball WA membership, minimum Gold membership, before taking the court.
  • Players must be registered to their team before participating unless an approved fill-in arrangement applies.

How are matches structured and timed?

Matches run on a 50-minute schedule comprising three sets. The first two sets are played to 25 points (uncapped, win by two points), and the third set is played to 15 points if time permits. If the match siren sounds before a set concludes, the team leading by two or more points wins that set.

What are the rules regarding net touches and centre line violations?

Player safety is our priority. Any contact with the net tape or interference with play is deemed a fault. Crossing over the centre line is permitted provided that some part of your foot remains on or directly above the line and it does not disrupt an opposing player.

Are duty and scoring responsibilities required?

Yes, teams share duty commitments throughout the 7 rounds. When scheduled for duty, teams must provide one first referee and one scorekeeper. Duty rosters are published alongside match fixtures, and showing up on time ensures all games stay on track.

Can fill-in players take the court?

Casual fill-ins are welcome to avoid forfeits during regular rounds, provided they do not already play in a higher division. To be eligible for finals matches, a player must have participated in at least two regular round matches for that team.

What code of conduct applies to matches?

  • Players, team representatives and spectators must treat referees, duty teams, opponents, venue staff and competition officials with respect.
  • Abusive, threatening, intimidating or unsporting behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Baldivis Storm may remove a player or team from a match or the competition for serious or repeated misconduct.

Acceptance of Rules

By registering for the competition, players and teams agree to comply with these competition rules, venue requirements and reasonable directions issued by Baldivis Storm Volleyball Club. The club may make reasonable amendments where required for safety, fairness or the effective operation of the competition.
